Toto Bathroom Remodeling: The Santa Clarita Owner’s Guide

Toto bathroom remodeling in Santa Clarita typically runs $9,000-$28,000 for a full replacement, and we stock Toto-compatible fixtures, valves, and trim across the Drake, Ultramax, and Carlyle series. Most Santa Clarita homeowners who call us started with a single failing part - a flapper that won’t seal, a fill valve that hisses at 2 a.m., or a skirted bowl with a cracked mounting hub - and discovered the model number had been discontinued or the rough-in didn’t match what the big-box store had on the shelf. We measure twice, document once, and build it right the first time.

Which Toto Models This Applies To

Toto’s product ecosystem breaks into roughly six residential series that matter for Santa Clarita remodels. The Drake II and original Drake (CST454CEFG and CST744SL, among others) use a 3-inch flush valve and Toto’s proprietary G-Max or Double Cyclone rim design - the rough-in is standard 12 inches, but the trapway geometry is not, which means dropping in a generic replacement bowl often leaves a gap at the wall or a wobble on the flange. The Ultramax II (MS604114CEFG) and Carlyle II (MS614114CEFG) are one-piece skirted toilets; the skirt hides the trapway but also hides the mounting bolts, which are accessed through side slots that only Toto’s UNIFIT adapter or exact OEM hardware fits.

We also see the Aquia dual-flush line (CST412MF) in newer Stevenson Ranch builds, where the 10-inch rough-in spec was used to save space in powder rooms. The Aquia uses a different carrier and a distinct flush tower - aftermarket towers exist, but the seal diameter is 2.75 inches, not the 3-inch standard, and we’ve watched homeowners buy two “universal” replacements before calling us. For pedestal sinks and lavatories, the Lloyd (LT Lloyd) and Soiree lines have proprietary faucet drilling patterns that don’t accept standard 4-inch centerset spreads.

Here’s how we identify the right part: we photograph the label inside the tank lid (which cracks if you torque it wrong - replace it with the Korky or OEM equivalent, never a generic weight-bearing lid), measure the rough-in from the finished wall to the bolt centers, and check the flush valve diameter with a caliper. For skirted bowls, we pull the model number from the stamped rating plate behind the bowl, not the tank, since the tank and bowl are sold as a mated pair on one-piece units.

OEM Toto parts come with the blue-and-white Toto packaging and a part number that starts with THU (Toto Hardware Unit). Quality aftermarket equivalents exist from Korky and Fluidmaster for fill valves and flappers, but we don’t use aftermarket for flush valves, mounting hardware, or skirted-bowl adapters - the tolerance stack is too tight, and a leaking flush valve on a second-floor Santa Clarita bathroom means water damage in the ceiling below. We stock THU500S fill valves, THU331S flappers for the 3-inch G-Max system, and THU099S flush valve seals on our service trucks.

Signs Your Toto Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

Signs Your Toto Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
  • Phantom flushing or hissing from the tank. The fill valve (THU500S or predecessor) isn’t seating fully, or the flapper seal has hardened in Santa Clarita’s dry heat. Rubber components here last 4-7 years in our climate, shorter if the home has a water softener.
  • Weak swirl or incomplete bowl evacuation. The rim jets are clogged with mineral scale from the hard water that runs through Santa Clarita’s municipal supply, or the siphon jet at the trapway base is obstructed. Cleaning the rim with a wire sometimes works; if the glazing inside the trapway is eroded, the bowl is done.
  • Rocking or movement at the bowl base. The closet flange has cracked, the wax ring has compressed, or the mounting bolts on a skirted toilet have loosened because the UNIFIT adapter wasn’t torqued to spec. A rocking toilet in a second-story bathroom will destroy the subfloor if you ignore it.
  • Water pooling at the base after flushing. The tank-to-bowl gasket is weeping, or the flush valve nut has loosened. On two-piece Drakes, the three bolts that connect tank to bowl use rubber grommets that flatten over time; on one-piece units, the flush valve seal is the only serviceable joint.
  • Cracks in the tank or bowl. Toto’s vitreous china is thick, but thermal shock from pouring hot water into a cold tank, or impact from a falling lid, propagates cracks fast. A cracked tank is not repairable; replacement is the only safe option, and we don’t reuse the old hardware.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Full Toto bathroom remodeling in Santa Clarita runs $9,000-$28,000 depending on scope, finish level, and whether we’re moving plumbing. A single-fixture replacement - toilet, vanity, or tub-shower unit - typically falls in the $3,500-$8,500 range. For part-specific repairs, we quote flat: a fill valve and flapper replacement is usually $180-$340 including the OEM parts, a flush valve rebuild on a two-piece Drake runs $280-$450, and a complete one-piece skirted toilet replacement with disposal and new flange runs $1,200-$2,400.

What drives the range: access (a second-story bathroom in a Saugus hillside home with no service elevator costs more in labor), the condition of the existing flange and subfloor (we photograph what we find and show you before proceeding), and whether the finish trim - shutoff valve, supply line, escutcheon - is included or reused. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, the price is written before anyone starts. The quote is a flat number with a written scope and a written warranty; no change proceeds without a signed change order. Every visit includes a documented photo record as standard, not an upgrade.

There’s a clear line between what you can safely check and what requires the tools and training we carry. You can verify the model number, listen for where the hiss originates (fill valve top, tank bottom, or base), and check for rocking with gentle pressure. Do not attempt to tighten the mounting bolts on a skirted one-piece toilet without the Toto UNIFIT wrench - the plastic adapter strips easily, and a stripped adapter means removing the entire bowl to replace a $12 part.

We don’t recommend DIY on any flush valve replacement involving the tank-to-bowl connection; the china is brittle, the torque spec is low, and an overtightened bolt cracks the tank. Same for any work requiring water shutoff at the main - if the angle stop is original to a 1990s Santa Clarita build, it may not reseat. Call (747) 294-3985 and we’ll schedule a free estimate. Grant Rowan and our crew have handled Toto fixtures across Stevenson Ranch, Valencia, and Canyon Country since 2007, and we carry the parts that match what you actually have.
