PGT Fence Installation: The Santa Clarita Owner’s Guide

PGT vinyl fence installation in Santa Clarita typically runs $3,500-$9,000 for a standard residential project, and we stock PGT-compatible rails, posts, and pickets for same-day replacement of failed sections. Most Santa Clarita homeowners discover a problem when a Santa Ana wind event cracks a top rail, or when hillside settling pulls a post out of plumb and the gate stops latching square. We carry the PGT Sentry, Pro, and Estate series profiles on our trucks, so matching the existing fence color and dimensions doesn’t require a two-week order delay.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT fences sold in the Santa Clarita market fall into three series, and each uses a slightly different rail-to-post connection. The Sentry series uses a 2″ x 3.5″ top rail with a routed pocket that accepts the picket tongue; the Pro series steps up to a 2″ x 4″ rail with an aluminum I-beam insert for spans over 6 feet; the Estate series uses a heavier 2″ x 6″ bottom rail for privacy panels on sloped grades. To identify yours, check the inside of the post cap for the PGT stamp and date code, or measure the rail height where it meets the post: Sentry rails sit flush, Pro rails have a 1/4″ reveal, Estate rails show a 1/2″ shoulder.

We source OEM PGT components through the manufacturer’s West Coast distribution in Ontario, CA, though for discontinued colorways we match with quality aftermarket extrusions from Bufftech that carry the same 0.040″ wall thickness and UV stabilizer package. The aftermarket route saves about 10-15% on parts cost and carries the same limited lifetime warranty against cracking and fading. We state this plainly: Rowan Construction Group Santa Clarita is an independent service provider, not affiliated with PGT.

Signs Your PGT Fence Installation Is Failing

Signs Your PGT Fence Installation Is Failing
  • Cracked top rail near the post. The rail end carries the load of wind pressure across the picket span; once the vinyl develops a stress crack, the hollow channel fills with water and the freeze-thaw cycle in Santa Clarita’s 40-degree winter nights accelerates the split. We replace the rail and inspect the post socket for wall fatigue.
  • Gate drags or won’t latch. PGT gates hang on a steel frame inside the vinyl sleeve; when the post settles even 3/4″ on our local decomposed granite soils, the frame twists and the latch pin misses the strike. We reset the post in concrete or add an adjustable hinge set.
  • Pickets yellowing in horizontal bands. This is UV degradation where the TiO2 cap layer has worn thin, common on south-facing runs in Santa Clarita’s 280-plus annual days of sun. We replace pickets in matched lots and can add a color-matched cap rail to protect the replacement stock.
  • Post leaning at the base. The PGT post is a 5″ x 5″ hollow vinyl shell over a 4″ x 4″ pressure-treated wood insert; when the wood rots at grade due to sprinkler overspray or poor drainage, the shell tilts. We extract the old post, pour a new concrete footing, and sleeve a treated post with the matching PGT shell.
  • Bottom rail popping out of the post pocket. The rail end has a crimped tab that locks into the post rout; ground heave from our clay-expansive soils, especially in Canyon Country and Sand Canyon, can pull the tab free. We reinstall with a stainless steel rail lock or replace the rail if the tab is sheared.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A partial PGT fence replacement in Santa Clarita runs $3,500-$9,000 depending on linear footage, grade difficulty, and whether we’re matching existing color or replacing a full run. For a single failed section, say a 6-foot panel with one post and rail, expect $450-$850 installed. That includes the PGT or matched aftermarket part, removal and disposal of the failed section, concrete footing if needed, and alignment with the existing fence line.

Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, we deliver a written price before any work starts. The quote itemizes parts, labor, and any footing or grading work separately. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation; OEM parts carry PGT’s limited lifetime warranty, and our aftermarket equivalents carry the same from Bufftech. Every visit includes a documented photo record of the failed condition and the completed repair.

A homeowner can safely inspect their PGT fence for the symptoms above: tap posts for hollow rot sounds, check gate clearances with a level, and photograph cracks for comparison. Where DIY goes wrong is in the post extraction and reset. A leaning post often has 80-120 pounds of concrete at its base, and the vinyl shell splinters if pried with a standard shovel. More critically, Santa Clarita’s hillside lots in Valencia and Stevenson Ranch require post holes at specific depths per the city’s grading and drainage ordinances; a post set too shallow on a retaining wall terrace will fail again in the next rainy season.

We carry post pullers, augers, and the PGT color-matched touch-up paint on every truck. Call (747) 294-3985 to schedule your free estimate. We’ll measure the run, check the series compatibility, and give you a written price before anyone picks up a tool.
